Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.194/6.1.155/6.6.111/6.12.52/6.17.2 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function user_cluster_connect of the component ocfs2. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a double free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-415. The product calls free() twice on the same memory address, potentially leading to modification of unexpected memory locations. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: fix double free in user_cluster_connect() user_cluster_disconnect() frees "conn->cc_private" which is "lc" but then the error handling frees "lc" a second time. Set "lc" to NULL on this path to avoid a double free.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-40055 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/20/2026).
