A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in IPFire up to 2.28. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file /cgi-bin/logs.cgi/firewalllogip.dat of the component Web Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity. IPFire versions prior to 2.29 (Core Update 198) contain a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability that allows an authenticated attacker to inject arbitrary JavaScript code through the pienumber parameter when updating the default firewall IP search values. When a user updates these defaults, the application issues an HTTP POST request to /cgi-bin/logs.cgi/firewalllogip.dat with the default number of IPs in the pienumber parameter. The value of this parameter is stored and later rendered in the web interface without proper sanitation or encoding, allowing injected scripts to execute in the context of other users who view the affected page.
The weakness was presented by Alex Williams. The advisory is shared at ipfire.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-34306 since 04/15/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
