Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in IBM Tivoli Monitoring up to 6.3.0.7 SP1. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.3.0.7 through 6.3.0.7 Service Pack 21 could allow a remote attacker to traverse directories on the system. An attacker could send a specially crafted URL request containing "dot dot" sequences (/../) to view, overwrite, or append to arbitrary files on the system.
The weakness was published by Aleksandr Tlyapov. The advisory is shared at ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-3356 since 04/06/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/07/2025). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
