Details
A vulnerability was found in silentmatt expr-eval up to 2.0.2. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function evaluate of the component Variables Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The expr-eval library is a JavaScript expression parser and evaluator designed to safely evaluate mathematical expressions with user-defined variables. However, due to insufficient input validation, an attacker can pass a crafted context object or use MEMBER of the context object into the evaluate() function and trigger arbitrary code execution.
The weakness was shared by Jangwoo Choe. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-12735 since 11/05/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at CNNVD (CNNVD-202511-469) and EUVD (EUVD-2025-37820). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
