Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Cisco Digital Network Architecture Center. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component REST API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A vulnerability in the REST API of Cisco Catalyst Center could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands in a restricted container as the root user. This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input in REST API request parameters. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted API request to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to inject arbitrary commands that would then be executed in a restricted container with root privileges. To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have valid credentials for a user account with at least the role of Observer.
The advisory is shared for download at sec.cloudapps.cisco.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-20349 since 10/10/2024. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 11/20/2025). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at EUVD (EUVD-2025-175336) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2601). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
