A vulnerability was found in Phpheaven PhpMyChat Plus up to 1.9 (Chat Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown part in the library lib/connected_users.lib.php of the file avatar.php of the component Help. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Multiple directory traversal vulnerabilities in PhpMyChat Plus 1.9 and earlier allow remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the ChatPath parameter to (1) avatar.php, (2) colorhelp_popup.php, (3) color_popup.php, (4) index.php, (5) index1.php, (6) lib/connected_users.lib.php, (7) lib/index.lib.php, and (8) phpMyChat.php3; and the (9) L parameter to logs.php. NOTE: CVE analysis suggests that vector 1 might be incorrect.
The weakness was published 11/15/2006 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-5897 since 11/15/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:avatar.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
