Xitami HTTP Server HTTP Request If-Modified-Since memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Xitami HTTP Server. Impacted is an unknown function of the component HTTP Request If-Modified-Since Handler. Performing a manipulation results in memory corruption. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2007-5067. Moreover, an exploit is present. It is recommended to replace the affected component with an alternative.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Xitami HTTP Server (Web Server) (affected version not known). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown functionality of the component HTTP Request If-Modified-Since Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple buffer overflows in iMatix Xitami Web Server 2.5c2 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long If-Modified-Since header to (1) xigui32.exe or (2) xitami.exe.

The weakness was disclosed 09/24/2007 by Krystian Kloskowski (h07) (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-5067 since 09/24/2007. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by h07 and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 802025 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11498 (Xitami Web Server "If-Modified-Since" Header Buffer Overflow Vulnerability).

The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with as an alternative. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5996.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (36756), Exploit-DB (4450), Tenable (802025), SecurityFocus (BID 25772†) and OSVDB (40595†). Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
