A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown code block in the library res://ieframe.dll/sslnavcancel.htm of the component Address Bar. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 allows remote attackers to (1) cause a security certificate from a secure web site to appear invalid via a link to res://ieframe.dll/sslnavcancel.htm with the target site in the anchor identifier, which displays the site's URL in the address bar but causes Internet Explorer to report that the certificate is invalid, or (2) trigger a "The webpage no longer exists" report via a link to res://ieframe.dll/http_410.htm, a variant of CVE-2006-5805.
The issue has been introduced in 07/27/2005. The weakness was released 11/15/2006 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-5913. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 476 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. By approaching the search of inurl:res://ieframe.dll/sslnavcancel.htm it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
