wolfSSL up to 5.8.2 CertificateVerify Signature Algorithm Negotiation signature verification

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Applying a patch is the recommended action to fix this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in wolfSSL up to 5.8.2 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component CertificateVerify Signature Algorithm Negotiation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a signature verification vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-347. The product does not verify, or incorrectly verifies, the cryptographic signature for data. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Improper input validation in the TLS 1.3 CertificateVerify signature algorithm negotiation in wolfSSL 5.8.2 and earlier on multiple platforms allows for downgrading the signature algorithm used. For example when a client sends ECDSA P521 as the supported signature algorithm the server previously could respond as ECDSA P256 being the accepted signature algorithm and the connection would continue with using ECDSA P256, if the client supports ECDSA P256.

The weakness was presented by Jaehun Lee. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-11934 since 10/18/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 276567 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-11934), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.
