Summaryinfo

A vulnerability categorized as problematic has been discovered in glib. This vulnerability affects the function g_escape_uri_string. The manipulation results in integer overflow. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-13601. Attacking locally is a requirement. No exploit is available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in glib (affected version unknown). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function g_escape_uri_string. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

A heap-based buffer overflow problem was found in glib through an incorrect calculation of buffer size in the g_escape_uri_string() function. If the string to escape contains a very large number of unacceptable characters (which would need escaping), the calculation of the length of the escaped string could overflow, leading to a potential write off the end of the newly allocated string.

The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-13601 since 11/24/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
