Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.117/6.12.59/6.17.9 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function qede_tpa_cont. The manipulation of the argument len_list[] with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: qlogic/qede: fix potential out-of-bounds read in qede_tpa_cont() and qede_tpa_end() The loops in 'qede_tpa_cont()' and 'qede_tpa_end()', iterate over 'cqe->len_list[]' using only a zero-length terminator as the stopping condition. If the terminator was missing or malformed, the loop could run past the end of the fixed-size array. Add an explicit bound check using ARRAY_SIZE() in both loops to prevent a potential out-of-bounds access. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-40252 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 277508 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-40252), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.6.118, 6.12.60 or 6.17.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch f0923011c1261b33a2ac1de349256d39cb750dd0/917a9d02182ac8b4f25eb47dc02f3ec679608c24/e441db07f208184e0466abf44b389a81d70c340e/896f1a2493b59beb2b5ccdf990503dbb16cb2256 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (277508), EUVD (EUVD-2025-201205) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2747). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
