CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.301/6.6.117/6.12.59/6.17.9. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function be_insert_vlan_in_pkt. The manipulation of the argument wrb_params with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: be2net: pass wrb_params in case of OS2BMC be_insert_vlan_in_pkt() is called with the wrb_params argument being NULL at be_send_pkt_to_bmc() call site.  This may lead to dereferencing a NULL pointer when processing a workaround for specific packet, as commit bc0c3405abbb ("be2net: fix a Tx stall bug caused by a specific ipv6 packet") states. The correct way would be to pass the wrb_params from be_xmit().

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-40264 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 277520 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-40264), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.4.302, 6.6.118, 6.12.60 or 6.17.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 48d59b60dd5d7e4c48c077a2008c9dcd7b59bdfe/ce0a3699244aca3acb659f143c9cb1327b210f89/1ecd86ec6efddb59a10c927e8e679f183bb9113e/4c4741f6e7f2fa4e1486cb61e1c15b9236ec134d/7d277a7a58578dd62fd546ddaef459ec24ccae36 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (277520), EUVD (EUVD-2025-201193) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2747). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
