Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17.8. Affected is the function btusb_disconnect of the component Bluetooth. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: btusb: reorder cleanup in btusb_disconnect to avoid UAF There is a KASAN: slab-use-after-free read in btusb_disconnect(). Calling "usb_driver_release_interface(&btusb_driver, data->intf)" will free the btusb data associated with the interface. The same data is then used later in the function, hence the UAF. Fix by moving the accesses to btusb data to before the data is free'd.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-40283 since 04/16/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 02/23/2026).
