Linux Kernel up to 6.1.27/6.2.14/6.3.1 message integrity

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.27/6.2.14/6.3.1. Affected by this issue is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a message integrity vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-924. The product establishes a communication channel with an endpoint and receives a message from that endpoint, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the message was not modified during transmission. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: virt/coco/sev-guest: Double-buffer messages The encryption algorithms read and write directly to shared unencrypted memory, which may leak information as well as permit the host to tamper with the message integrity. Instead, copy whole messages in or out as needed before doing any computation on them.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-53769 since 12/08/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 02/23/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 277775 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2023-53769), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.1.28, 6.2.15 or 6.3.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 577a64725bfd77645986168e953d405067ee565b/c27dafc4aa50a29ec927b3aa84ac7b430071f682/4b69c63f716cfda38e1210e65b68f67f6cee2ddf/965006103a14703cc42043bbf9b5e0cdf7a468ad is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (277775), EUVD (EUVD-2023-60059) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2756). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
