Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in gofiber utils up to 2.0.0-rc.3. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component rand. The manipulation of the argument UUID with an unknown input leads to a return value vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-252. The product does not check the return value from a method or function, which can prevent it from detecting unexpected states and conditions. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Fiber Utils is a collection of common functions created for Fiber. In versions 2.0.0-rc.3 and below, when the system's cryptographic random number generator (crypto/rand) fails, both functions silently fall back to returning predictable UUID values, including the zero UUID "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000". The vulnerability occurs through two related but distinct failure paths, both ultimately caused by crypto/rand.Read() failures, compromising the security of all Fiber applications using these functions for security-critical operations. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0-rc.4.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-66565 since 12/04/2025. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 2 2.0-rc.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
