Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in WAGO Indsutrial-Managed-Switches up to 02.63. Affected by this vulnerability is the function check_cookie. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An unauthenticated remote attacker can abuse unsafe sscanf calls within the check_cookie() function to write arbitrary data into fixed-size stack buffers which leads to full device compromise.
The weakness was presented by Daniel Hulliger as VDE-2025-095. The advisory is shared at certvde.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-41732 since 04/16/2025.
