A vulnerability was found in Expinion.net Inews Publisher up to 2.5 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the file articles.asp of the component Publisher. The manipulation of the argument ex with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
SQL injection vulnerability in articles.asp in Expinion.net iNews (1) Publisher (iNP) 2.5 and earlier, and possibly (2) News Manager, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the ex parameter. NOTE: early reports of this issue reported it as XSS, but this was erroneous. The original report was for News Manager, but there is strong evidence that the correct product is Publisher.
The weakness was released 12/04/2006 by Aria-Security Team (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-6274 since 12/03/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as highly functional. By approaching the search of inurl:articles.asp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
