Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17.10 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function new_pba of the component usb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: storage: sddr55: Reject out-of-bound new_pba Discovered by Atuin - Automated Vulnerability Discovery Engine. new_pba comes from the status packet returned after each write. A bogus device could report values beyond the block count derived from info->capacity, letting the driver walk off the end of pba_to_lba[] and corrupt heap memory. Reject PBAs that exceed the computed block count and fail the transfer so we avoid touching out-of-range mapping entries.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-40345 since 04/16/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
