Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17.9. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function skb_queue_splice of the component cmd_net. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: io_uring/cmd_net: fix wrong argument types for skb_queue_splice() If timestamp retriving needs to be retried and the local list of SKB's already has entries, then it's spliced back into the socket queue. However, the arguments for the splice helper are transposed, causing exactly the wrong direction of splicing into the on-stack list. Fix that up.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-68234 since 12/16/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 02/21/2026).
