Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17.10 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function sxgbe_rx. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: sxgbe: fix potential NULL dereference in sxgbe_rx() Currently, when skb is null, the driver prints an error and then dereferences skb on the next line. To fix this, let's add a 'break' after the error message to switch to sxgbe_rx_refill(), which is similar to the approach taken by the other drivers in this particular case, e.g. calxeda with xgmac_rx(). Found during a code review.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-68302 since 12/16/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
