Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in parse-server up to 8.6.1/9.1.0. This affects the function authData of the component Instagram Graph API. The manipulation of the argument apiURL with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Parse Server is an open source backend that can be deployed to any infrastructure that can run Node.js. Prior to versions 8.6.2 and 9.1.1-alpha.1, the Instagram authentication adapter allows clients to specify a custom API URL via the `apiURL` parameter in `authData`. This enables SSRF attacks and possibly authentication bypass if malicious endpoints return fake responses to validate unauthorized users. This is fixed in versions 8.6.2 and 9.1.1-alpha.1 by hardcoding the Instagram Graph API URL `https://graph.instagram.com` and ignoring client-provided `apiURL` values. No known workarounds are available.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-68150 since 12/15/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 8.6.2 or 9.1.1-alpha.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
