Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in ConnectWise ScreenConnect up to 1.0.12. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a insertion of sensitive information into sent data vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-201. The code transmits data to another actor, but a portion of the data includes sensitive information that should not be accessible to that actor. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

In deployments using the ScreenConnect™ Certificate Signing Extension, encrypted configuration values including an Azure Key Vault-related key, could be returned to unauthenticated users through a client-facing endpoint under certain conditions. The values remained encrypted and securely stored at rest; however, an encrypted representation could be exposed in client responses. Updating the Certificate Signing Extension to version 1.0.12 or higher ensures configuration handling occurs exclusively on the server side, preventing encrypted values from being transmitted to or rendered by client-side components.

The weakness was disclosed by Michael Gilliam. The advisory is available at connectwise.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-14823 since 12/17/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 12/20/2025). This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
