Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17.12/6.18.1. This affects the function mshv_partition_region_by_uaddr of the component mshv. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mshv: Fix create memory region overlap check The current check is incorrect; it only checks if the beginning or end of a region is within an existing region. This doesn't account for userspace specifying a region that begins before and ends after an existing region. Change the logic to a range intersection check against gfns and uaddrs for each region. Remove mshv_partition_region_by_uaddr() as it is no longer used.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-68743 since 12/24/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/03/2026).
