Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.106/6.1.23/6.2.10. Affected is the function ice_vc_fdir_set_irq_ctx of the component ice. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: fix wrong fallback logic for FDIR When adding a FDIR filter, if ice_vc_fdir_set_irq_ctx returns failure, the inserted fdir entry will not be removed and if ice_vc_fdir_write_fltr returns failure, the fdir context info for irq handler will not be cleared which may lead to inconsistent or memory leak issue. This patch refines failure cases to resolve this issue.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-54040 since 12/24/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
