It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17.8 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function hfcsusb_probe of the component isdn. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: isdn: mISDN: hfcsusb: fix memory leak in hfcsusb_probe() In hfcsusb_probe(), the memory allocated for ctrl_urb gets leaked when setup_instance() fails with an error code. Fix that by freeing the urb before freeing the hw structure. Also change the error paths to use the goto ladder style. Compile tested only. Issue found using a prototype static analysis tool.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-68734 since 12/24/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 279732 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-68734), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.4.302, 5.10.247, 5.15.197, 6.1.159, 6.6.117, 6.12.59 or 6.17.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
