Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.15/6.1.1. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function it6505_i2c_probe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/bridge: it6505: Initialize AUX channel in it6505_i2c_probe During device boot, the HPD interrupt could be triggered before the DRM subsystem registers it6505 as a DRM bridge. In such cases, the driver tries to access AUX channel and causes NULL pointer dereference. Initializing the AUX channel earlier to prevent such error.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-50847 since 12/30/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 6.0.16 or 6.1.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
