CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.149/5.15.74/5.19.16/6.0.2. Affected is the function jbd2_fc_wait_bufs of the component jbd2. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jbd2: fix potential buffer head reference count leak As in 'jbd2_fc_wait_bufs' if buffer isn't uptodate, will return -EIO without update 'journal->j_fc_off'. But 'jbd2_fc_release_bufs' will release buffer head from ‘j_fc_off - 1’ if 'bh' is NULL will terminal release which will lead to buffer head buffer head reference count leak. To solve above issue, update 'journal->j_fc_off' before return -EIO.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2022-50839 since 12/30/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 280812 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2022-50839), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.10.150, 5.15.75, 5.19.17 or 6.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 7a33dde572fceb45d02d188e0213c47059401c93/e7385c868ee038d6a0cb0e85c22d2741e7910fd5/68ed9c76b2affd47177b92495446abb7262d0ef7/9b073d73725366d886b711b74e058c02f51e7a0e/e0d5fc7a6d80ac2406c7dfc6bb625201d0250a8a is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (280812) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2941). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
