Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.24/6.2.11. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function current_tx of the component dmaengine. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dmaengine: apple-admac: Fix 'current_tx' not getting freed In terminate_all we should queue up all submitted descriptors to be freed. We do that for the content of the 'issued' and 'submitted' lists, but the 'current_tx' descriptor falls through the cracks as it's removed from the 'issued' list once it gets assigned to be the current descriptor. Explicitly queue up freeing of the 'current_tx' descriptor to address a memory leak that is otherwise present.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-54188 since 12/30/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 281673 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2023-54188), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.25 or 6.2.12 eliminates this vulnerability.
