Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.2.10 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function sof_ipc4_route_setup of the component ASoC. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: SOF: avoid a NULL dereference with unsupported widgets If an IPC4 topology contains an unsupported widget, its .module_info field won't be set, then sof_ipc4_route_setup() will cause a kernel Oops trying to dereference it. Add a check for such cases.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-54233 since 12/30/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
