Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.172/5.15.98/6.1.15/6.2.2. This affects the function crypto_alloc_shash of the component wifi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath11k: Fix memory leak in ath11k_peer_rx_frag_setup crypto_alloc_shash() allocates resources, which should be released by crypto_free_shash(). When ath11k_peer_find() fails, there has memory leak. Add missing crypto_free_shash() to fix this.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2023-54275 since 12/30/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 5.10.173, 5.15.99, 6.1.16 or 6.2.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
