Details
A vulnerability was found in Composer up to 2.2.25/2.9.2. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown functionality of the component ANSI Control Character Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Composer is a dependency manager for PHP. In versions on the 2.x branch prior to 2.2.26 and 2.9.3, attackers controlling remote sources that Composer downloads from might in some way inject ANSI control characters in the terminal output of various Composer commands, causing mangled output and potentially leading to confusion or DoS of the terminal application. There is no proven exploit and this has thus a low severity but we still publish a CVE as it has potential for abuse, and we want to be on the safe side informing users that they should upgrade. Versions 2.2.26 and 2.9.3 contain a patch for the issue.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-67746 since 12/11/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1055 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
