Details
A vulnerability was found in Panda3D up to 1.10.16. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function alloca. The manipulation of the argument argv_copy/argv_copy2 with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized variable vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-457. The code uses a variable that has not been initialized, leading to unpredictable or unintended results. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
The deploy-stub component in Panda3D versions up to and including 1.10.16 contains a denial of service vulnerability due to unbounded stack allocation. The deploy-stub executable allocates argv_copy and argv_copy2 using alloca() based directly on the attacker-controlled argc value without validation. Supplying a large number of command-line arguments can exhaust stack space and propagate uninitialized stack memory into Python interpreter initialization, resulting in a reliable crash and undefined behavior.
The weakness was published by Ron Edgerson. The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-22188 since 01/06/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
