Details
A vulnerability has been found in THM-Health PILOS up to 4.9.x and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component API Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. The summary by CVE is:
PILOS (Platform for Interactive Live-Online Seminars) is a frontend for BigBlueButton. Prior to 4.10.0, Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability exists in an administrative API endpoint responsible for terminating all active video conferences on a single server. The affected endpoint performs a destructive action but is exposed via an HTTP GET request. Although proper authorization checks are enforced and the endpoint cannot be triggered cross-site, the use of GET allows the action to be implicitly invoked through same-site content (e.g. embedded resources rendered within the application). As a result, an authenticated administrator who views crafted content within the application may unknowingly trigger the endpoint, causing all active video conferences on the server to be terminated without explicit intent or confirmation. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.10.0.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-22800 since 01/09/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
Upgrading to version 4.10.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d9ab9bb7ac0a8581c25e24cb7db2152d40be4d1b is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
