Summaryinfo

A vulnerability labeled as problematic has been found in GLib. Affected is the function g_buffered_input_stream_peek. The manipulation results in integer underflow. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2026-0988. There is not any exploit available. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in GLib (the affected version unknown). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function g_buffered_input_stream_peek. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer underflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-191. The product subtracts one value from another, such that the result is less than the minimum allowable integer value, which produces a value that is not equal to the correct result. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

A flaw was found in glib. Missing validation of offset and count parameters in the g_buffered_input_stream_peek() function can lead to an integer overflow during length calculation. When specially crafted values are provided, this overflow results in an incorrect size being passed to memcpy(), triggering a buffer overflow. This can cause application crashes, leading to a Denial of Service (DoS).

The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-0988. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
