FreeRDP up to 3.20.x FastGlyph Parser heap-based overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in FreeRDP up to 3.20.x. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component FastGlyph Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol. Prior to version 3.21.0, FastGlyph parsing trusts `cbData`/remaining length and never validates against the minimum size implied by `cx/cy`. A malicious server can trigger a client‑side global buffer overflow, causing a crash (DoS). Version 3.21.0 contains a patch for the issue.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-23732 since 01/15/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 297418 (SUSE SLED15 / SLES15 Security Update : freerdp (SUSE-SU-2026:0345-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 3.21.0 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (297418), EUVD (EUVD-2026-3313) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0145). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
