Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.197/6.1.159/6.6.119/6.12.63/6.18.2. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function tpm2_load_cmd of the component KEYS. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: KEYS: trusted: Fix a memory leak in tpm2_load_cmd 'tpm2_load_cmd' allocates a tempoary blob indirectly via 'tpm2_key_decode' but it is not freed in the failure paths. Address this by wrapping the blob into with a cleanup helper.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-71147 since 01/13/2026. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 296390 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-71147), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.15.198, 6.1.160, 6.6.120, 6.12.64, 6.18.3 or 6.19-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 3fd7df4636d8fd5e3592371967a5941204368936/af0689cafb127a8d1af78cc8b72585c9b2a19ecd/19166de9737218b77122c41a5730ac87025e089f/9b015f2918b95bdde2ca9cefa10ef02b138aae1e/9e7c63c69f57b1db1a8a1542359a6167ff8fcef1/62cd5d480b9762ce70d720a81fa5b373052ae05f is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (296390) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0215). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
