Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.5/6.19-rc4 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function tc_act_in_hw. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: act_api: avoid dereferencing ERR_PTR in tcf_idrinfo_destroy syzbot reported a crash in tc_act_in_hw() during netns teardown where tcf_idrinfo_destroy() passed an ERR_PTR(-EBUSY) value as a tc_action pointer, leading to an invalid dereference. Guard against ERR_PTR entries when iterating the action IDR so teardown does not call tc_act_in_hw() on an error pointer.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-22987 since 01/13/2026. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
