Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Dormakaba Kaba exos 9300 (affected version unknown). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Database Password Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reliance on security through obscurity vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-656. The product uses a protection mechanism whose strength depends heavily on its obscurity, such that knowledge of its algorithms or key data is sufficient to defeat the mechanism. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Exos 9300 instances are using a randomly generated database password to connect to the configured MSSQL server. The password is derived from static random values, which are concatenated to the hostname and a random string that can be read by every user from the registry. This allows an attacker to derive the database password and get authenticated access to the central exos 9300 database as the user Exos9300Common. The user has the roles ExosDialog and ExosDialogDotNet assigned, which are able to read most tables of the database as well as update and insert into many tables.

The weakness was shared by Clemens Stockenreitner and Werner Schober. The advisory is available at r.sec-consult.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-59093 since 09/09/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
