Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Django up to 4.2.27/5.2.10/6.0.1. This affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation of the argument QuerySet.order_by with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in 6.0 before 6.0.2, 5.2 before 5.2.11, and 4.2 before 4.2.28. `.QuerySet.order_by()` is subject to SQL injection in column aliases containing periods when the same alias is, using a suitably crafted dictionary, with dictionary expansion, used in `FilteredRelation`. Earlier, unsupported Django series (such as 5.0.x, 4.1.x, and 3.2.x) were not evaluated and may also be affected. Django would like to thank Solomon Kebede for reporting this issue.
The advisory is shared at docs.djangoproject.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-1312 since 01/21/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 03/08/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
