TUM-Dev NavigaTUM /cdn propose_edits path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in TUM-Dev NavigaTUM and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function propose_edits of the file /cdn. Such manipulation leads to path traversal. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-25575. The attack can be launched remotely. No exploit exists. Applying a patch is advised to resolve this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in TUM-Dev NavigaTUM (the affected version is unknown). Affected by this issue is the function propose_edits of the file /cdn. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-23. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. Impacted is integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

NavigaTUM is a website and API to search for rooms, buildings and other places. Prior to commit 86f34c7, there is a path traversal vulnerability in the propose_edits endpoint allows unauthenticated users to overwrite files in directories writable by the application user (e.g., /cdn). By supplying unsanitized file keys containing traversal sequences (e.g., ../../) in the JSON payload, an attacker can escape the intended temporary directory and replace public facing images or fill the server's storage. This issue has been patched via commit 86f34c7.

The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-25575 since 02/03/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.

Applying the patch 86f34c72886a59ec8f1e6c00f78a5ab889a70fd0 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-5325). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
