isaacs brace-expansion up to 5.0.0 redos

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in isaacs brace-expansion up to 5.0.0. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redos vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-1333. The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

@isaacs/brace-expansion is a hybrid CJS/ESM TypeScript fork of brace-expansion. Prior to version 5.0.1, @isaacs/brace-expansion is vulnerable to a denial of service (DoS) issue caused by unbounded brace range expansion. When an attacker provides a pattern containing repeated numeric brace ranges, the library attempts to eagerly generate every possible combination synchronously. Because the expansion grows exponentially, even a small input can consume excessive CPU and memory and may crash the Node.js process. This issue has been patched in version 5.0.1.

The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-25547 since 02/02/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1449.003 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 298173 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2026-25547), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (298173), EUVD (EUVD-2026-5326) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2026-0526). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
