Details
A vulnerability was found in Gogs up to 0.13.3. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component 2FA Recovery Code Validation. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper authentication vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-287. When an actor claims to have a given identity, the product does not prove or insufficiently proves that the claim is correct. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Gogs is an open source self-hosted Git service. In version 0.13.3 and prior, Gogs’ 2FA recovery code validation does not scope codes by user, enabling cross-account bypass. If an attacker knows a victim’s username and password, they can use any unused recovery code (e.g., from their own account) to bypass the victim’s 2FA. This enables full account takeover and renders 2FA ineffective in all environments where it's enabled.. This issue has been patched in versions 0.13.4 and 0.14.0+dev.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-64175 since 10/28/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
