Details
A vulnerability was found in Anthropic claude-code up to 2.1.1 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file .claude/settings.json of the component Bubblewrap Sandboxing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a trust boundary violation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-501. The product mixes trusted and untrusted data in the same data structure or structured message. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Claude Code is an agentic coding tool. Prior to version 2.1.2, Claude Code's bubblewrap sandboxing mechanism failed to properly protect the .claude/settings.json configuration file when it did not exist at startup. While the parent directory was mounted as writable and .claude/settings.local.json was explicitly protected with read-only constraints, settings.json was not protected if it was missing. This allowed malicious code running inside the sandbox to create this file and inject persistent hooks (such as SessionStart commands) that would execute with host privileges when Claude Code was restarted. This issue has been patched in version 2.1.2.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-25725 since 02/05/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
