AMD Radeon PRO V620 Kernel Memory untrusted pointer dereference

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in AMD Ryzen 5000 Desktop Processors with Radeon Graphics, Ryzen 4000 Mobile Processors with Radeon Graphics, Ryzen 7030 Mobile Processors with Radeon Graphics, Ryzen 5000 Mobile Processors with Radeon Graphics, Ryzen 4000 Desktop Processors, Ryzen Embedded R1000 Processors, Ryzen Embedded R2000 Processors, Ryzen Embedded V1000 Processors, Ryzen Embedded V2000 Processors, Ryzen Embedded V3000 Processors, Radeon RX 5000 Graphics Products, Radeon PRO W5000 Graphics Products, Radeon RX 6000 Graphics Products, Radeon PRO W6000 Graphics Products, Radeon PRO V520 and Radeon PRO V620. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the component Kernel Memory Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a untrusted pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-822. The product obtains a value from an untrusted source, converts this value to a pointer, and dereferences the resulting pointer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Improper syscall input validation in ASP (AMD Secure Processor) may force the kernel into reading syscall parameter values from its own memory space allowing an attacker to infer the contents of the kernel memory leading to potential information disclosure.

The advisory is available at amd.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2021-26410 since 01/29/2021. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
