Details
A vulnerability was found in DiskCache up to 5.6.3. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component Cache Directory Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a local privilege escalation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
DiskCache (python-diskcache) through 5.6.3 uses Python pickle for serialization by default. An attacker with write access to the cache directory can achieve arbitrary code execution when a victim application reads from the cache.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-69872 since 01/09/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
