A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Apple macOS, visionOS, iOS and iPadOS up to 26.2. This issue affects some unknown processing of the component App. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. A path handling issue was addressed with improved validation. This issue is fixed in iOS 26.3 and iPadOS 26.3, macOS Tahoe 26.3, macOS Sonoma 14.8.4, visionOS 26.3. An app may be able to gain root privileges.
