Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in markdown-it up to 14.1.0. This affects the function linkify. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a redos vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1333. The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
Versions of the package markdown-it from 13.0.0 and before 14.1.1 are vulnerable to Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) due to the use of the regex /\*+$/ in the linkify function. An attacker can supply a long sequence of * characters followed by a non-matching character, which triggers excessive backtracking and may lead to a denial-of-service condition.
