Details
A vulnerability was found in Antynea grub-btrfs up to 2026-01-31. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function resolve_device. The manipulation of the argument root with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
grub-btrfs through 2026-01-31 (on Arch Linux and derivative distributions) allows initramfs OS command injection because it does not sanitize the $root parameter to resolve_device(). NOTE: a third party reports "exploitation may not be feasible under normal conditions and may depend on specific implementation details within resolve_device."
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-25828 since 02/06/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy.
