Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Calero VeraSMART. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Veramark\VeraSMART\WebRoot\web.config. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a hard-coded key vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-321. The use of a hard-coded cryptographic key significantly increases the possibility that encrypted data may be recovered. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Calero VeraSMART versions prior to 2022 R1 use static ASP.NET/IIS machineKey values configured for the VeraSMART web application and stored in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Veramark\\VeraSMART\\WebRoot\\web.config. An attacker who obtains these keys can craft a valid ASP.NET ViewState payload that passes integrity validation and is accepted by the application, resulting in server-side deserialization and remote code execution in the context of the IIS application.
The weakness was presented by Victor A. Morales. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-26335 since 02/13/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600.001 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
