A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Openads 2.3.30. Affected is some unknown functionality of the file affiliate-search.php of the component Media Manager. The manipulation of the argument keyword with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Openads 2.0.x before 2.0.10, 2.3 before 2.3.31 (aka Max Media Manager before 0.3.31-alpha-pr2), and phpAdsNew/phpPgAds before 2.0.9-pr1 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the keyword parameter in admin-search.php and (2) affiliate-search.php. NOTE: this issue may overlap CVE-2007-0363.
The weakness was released 01/26/2007 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at developer.openads.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-0477 since 01/24/2007. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:affiliate-search.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2.0.x eliminates this vulnerability.
